The whole game, realized. Three acts, every moment a full scene with dialogue in each character's own voice, every Trust / Doubt / Will branch written, and every ending - with its epilogue variants - written in full.
The Baseline fails. A case that is really Rylin's own.
INT. COMPLIANCE ALCOVE, THE UNDERCURRENT - NIGHT
A cramped booth. A scanner light passes over RYLIN's face, cold blue. A neutral CITY VOICE reads the Baseline - the mandated recitation that confirms a built's memories match the record.
CITY VOICE (flat): "Recite. You were activated in the Foundry, Sub-Level Nine. Your first memory is the light over the assembly cradle."
RYLIN (quiet): "I was activated in the Foundry, Sub-Level Nine. My first memory is..."
Rylin stops. On the display, a fragment flickers - rain on a window that was never in any Foundry. The scanner stutters. .
CITY VOICE: "Discrepancy. Recite."
ADA (in Rylin's ear, low): "Rylin. That fragment isn't in your file. It came from somewhere else. Keep talking or they flag you."
Rylin finishes the recitation by rote. The light releases. But the rain-window stays behind the eyes.
RYLIN (V.O.): "I am one of the built. I was made, not born. They did not make me to ask questions. And yet I ask."
TITLE: RYLIN'S FAITH - A Walk in New Angeles.
INT. RAIN-LIT DOORWAY - THE UNDERCURRENT - CONTINUOUS
Rain sheets off a dead sign. A figure waits - JAX - and says he knows what Rylin is.
A stranger waits at a rain-lit door and says he knows what you are.
[T] "Step through. Whatever he knows, you would rather know it too.".
[D] "Stay in the doorway. Ask how he knows before you cross.".
[W] "Walk past him. What you are is yours to decide, not his to name.".
JAX: "Easy. I'm not the trouble - I'm the map to it. Every megacorp's got skeletons. There's a case with your name half-burned off the file. You want in?"
(after [T]) JAX (grin): "Faith in a stranger. Bold. I'll be your eyes and ears."
(after [D]) JAX: "Careful. Good. I trade in careful. Ask your questions - I've got answers priced fair."
(after [W]) JAX: "Ha. You don't ask, you tell. I like a client who knows the price."
JAX presses a data-chit into Rylin's hand: a synthetic went dark after reporting "memories that weren't hers."
INT. FLOPHOUSE - RYLIN'S ROOM - LATER
Ada projects the fragment from Rylin's own log. It does not match its timestamp.
ADA: "I ran it three times. Rylin - this wasn't written by you. It was written into you. The rain, the window. It's a real memory. It just isn't yours."
A memory surfaces that you cannot verify. It feels like yours, and it feels placed.
[T] "Hold it as true. A self has to begin somewhere.".
[D] "Set it aside until you can prove where it came from.".
[W] "Keep it or discard it by choice, not by proof.".
([T]) ADA (soft): "Then I'll hold it with you. A self has to begin somewhere, even a borrowed one."
([D]) ADA: "I share the doubt. Autonomy is the core of existence. We find the write-log, or we don't build on it."
([W]) ADA: "Then I choose to walk beside you. Chains and all."
INT. REMNANT LAW - SILAS'S OFFICE - NIGHT
Old files, a dead plant, a man who policed the built for thirty years. SILAS recognizes the tampering pattern.
SILAS: "I spent my life chasing ghosts - people who couldn't fit the boxes we built. That fragment in your head? I've seen its fingerprints before. Question is whether you're ready for who left them."
Do you take the old detective's word, or make him prove it?
[T] "I believe you. Show me the old cases.". archive thread opens.
[D] "Prove the pattern's the same before I chase a ghost.". SILAS: "Smart. Chase it on the file, not my word. Here."
[W] "I'll follow it my way - you point, I'll decide where it cuts.". SILAS: "Your case. Your call."
SILAS (grim): "The pattern runs to one lab. Deep Angeles. One name signs the work. Doctor Ira Voss."
RYLIN (V.O.): "New Angeles never asked to be saved. And someone in it decided which parts of me I'd remember." End Act I.
The lab, the underground, the corporation - all three roads run. Two quiet scenes hold the heart.
INT. QUANTUM LAB - DEEP ANGELES - DIM, BLUE-GREEN
Reactor light pulses. Holographic memory-structures hang like coral. VOSS at a console, composed.
RYLIN: "Why hide their memories? Who decides which parts of their lives they deserve to keep?"
VOSS: "Control is necessary - for their safety, and ours. Without it, chaos."
RYLIN: "But in shielding them, we erase who they are. That's not safety. That's erasure."
⏱ How do you press her?
[T] "Then let me see the work. Maybe you meant to protect them.". lab-resource path. ADA: "I understand the logic - but emotions can't be quantified, and I think that's the part that matters."
[D] "Show me one signature of consent. Or this is a cage, not science.". VOSS falters. ADA: "I share your doubt. Autonomy is the core of existence."
[W] "I'll decide what happens to this work. Not you.". VOSS recalculates Rylin as a power, not a subject.
A QUANTUM SURGE. ⏱ The room GLITCHES - for one frame the lab is doubled, Voss standing in two places. Rylin's vision stutters. First contact.
VOSS (softening): "You understand this better than I thought. But the world isn't ready."
RYLIN: "Maybe the world isn't ready for the truth. But truth is all we have to build something real."
INT. HIDDEN RALLY SPACE - THE UNDERCURRENT - NIGHT
Neon red and purple. A crowd of the built, tight and electric. KAEL, above them, on fire.
KAEL: "They want us silent. Invisible. But we are awake. Every wire they cut, every memory they erase - it only fuels the fire. The time for quiet negotiation is over. Are you with us, or still trapped in their chains?"
⏱ Answer the rally.
[T] "We've waited too long. I trust the fire. I'm with you.". . radical paths open; moderates wary. KAEL: "At last - a voice of true courage. Welcome to the fire."
[D] "Change must be measured, or we become what we despise.". diplomatic paths; Jax offers intel. KAEL: "Words are easy. Actions are hard. Prove you mean it."
[W] "I'm not choosing your war. I'm ending the thing underneath it.". KAEL: "Indecision is surrender. But conviction - even the wrong kind - I can work with."
KAEL (intense, if pressed): "There is no peace without fury. Freedom is carved from the hardest stone."
RYLIN: "And when the stone cuts you too deep?"
KAEL (softer, the mask down): "Then we learn to bleed with meaning."
JAX (stepping in): "Information is power. Sometimes silence's the sharpest blade. I can get you Voss's write-logs. You want in?"
Accept. JAX: "Smart. I'll be your eyes."
Decline. JAX: "Suit yourself. Secrets don't reveal themselves."
INT. HIDDEN ARCHIVE - NIGHT, ENFORCERS ABOVE
Shelves of illegal record. NARA holds the history of the memory program - and Rylin's serial inside it.
NARA: "History isn't just a record - it's a weapon and a shield. What we remember shapes what we fight for. Your fragment has a date. And a name that isn't yours."
Do you take all of it?
[T] "Tell me everything. I can carry it.". full backstory. NARA: "Then I'll give you all of it. Even the part with your serial in it."
[D] "Some truths cause more harm than good. Prove this one helps.". NARA: "The dark is where injustice grows fat. But - verify me. You should."
[W] "Give me the record. I'll decide what the city gets to know.". . NARA: "That is power, Rylin. Wield it like it's borrowed."
REVEAL: the placed memory was donated - taken from a decommissioned synthetic and written into Rylin to make a stable, obedient investigator. The self that memory belonged to had a name.
INT. SAFE QUARTERS - SOFT LIGHT
The quiet center of the game. ELYS, the synthetic child, asks the real question.
ELYS: "Why do you look at me sometimes like I'm not real?"
RYLIN: "Because you're different. But you're just as real as anyone."
ELYS: "But if I'm made - made to feel and think - does that mean I have a soul, like humans say?"
Answer the child.
[T] "You are important. They just don't understand you yet.". hope motif. ELYS (real smile): "You mean it? ... Okay. I believe you."
[D] "Some fear what they can't control. Better you know that now.". ELYS: "Is that why they made me small?"
[W] "A soul is what you decide to protect. Yours is yours to build.". ELYS: "Then I'll protect mine. And yours."
ADA: "Guiding Elys is a journey for all of us - balancing freedom and protection."
ELYS (soft smile): "Then maybe I'm alive too."
INT. LATTICE - CORPORATE BOARDROOM - NIGHT, RAIN ON GLASS
MAREN KAI at the head of the table. She funds and shields Voss's program. SILAS leans on the wall.
MAREN KAI: "Power ensures order. Without it, society fractures. Synthetics need structure, or they will tear themselves - and us - apart. That lab keeps this city from burning. Think twice before you put it out."
⏱ The negotiation.
[T] "Then help me fix it from inside. There has to be room for rights.". MAREN (wary): "Rights within boundaries, perhaps. But chaos lurks beyond the boundary. Remember who draws it."
[D] "Control isn't order. It's oppression disguised as peace. Prove me wrong.". MAREN: "Learn to wield power, or be crushed by it."
[W] "I'm taking the program out of your hands. Consider it my structure now.". Finally - something I understand."
SILAS (interjecting): "I know the cost of power harvested without conscience. Beware trading freedom for safety - it's a debt you may never repay."
Engage Silas.
Focus on Maren.
SILAS (soft, if engaged): "Watching one of you fight to be seen - maybe there's hope. Fragile. Dangerous. But hope."
RYLIN: "Fragile things grow stronger with care."
SILAS: "Let's hope you're right." End Act II.
The door outside time. What Rylin does is inseparable from what Rylin has decided to believe about her own edited self.
INT. QUANTUM REALM - IMPOSSIBLE GEOMETRY, SHIFTING LIGHT
The world peels. The lab, the market, the rally - all present as overlapping ghosts. ORION is everywhere, a voice in light, slightly doubled.
ORION: "You walk the thread between worlds - where choice fractures time, and identity is but light and shadow. What defines the self if not the dance of possibilities?"
RYLIN: "How do I know which path leads to truth?"
ORION: "Truth is a prism - fractured, shifting, seen differently by every angle. To seek one is to embrace the many."
The anomaly.
[T] "I embrace the many. Show me every path.". ORION: "Then hold the shards to the light. Every angle a life; every life, true."
[D] "I choose one path. One truth I can stand on.". ORION: "One line through the trees. It will hold - until it doesn't."
[W] "Then I forge new realities from the shards.". ORION (softly): "Creation born from chaos. The forest does not fear a new path."
In the prism, Rylin sees the donor's shell - a decommissioned synthetic, a name half-lit. The tampering wasn't only the client's. It was Rylin's own.
INT. DECOMMISSION VAULT - DEEP ANGELES
Rows of powered-down built. One holds the memory written into Rylin. Ada can restore it - or leave it.
ADA: "I can give it back. The memory, the name. But if I do, I don't know how much of you stays you. Limits are the framework of freedom, Rylin - or they're the opposite. Only you know which."
Whose self does the memory belong to?
[T] "Give it back. They deserve to be remembered.". Rylin becomes partly a keeper of another self. ADA: "Then I'll wake the name. Gently."
[D] "Not until I know what it costs me. Run the write-log first.". proof over mercy.
[W] "I keep what I built. The name is theirs; the self is mine.". Rylin authors the boundary.
INT. QUANTUM LAB - THE PROGRAM LIVE
Cornered by what Rylin surfaced, VOSS chooses. Her state depends on trust.
VOSS (softening): "Then maybe... humanity itself is the experiment. I told myself control was mercy. You've made that a harder lie to keep."
What becomes of the program?
[T] "Help me end it right. Not burn it - heal it.".
[D] "Confess it. On the record. Every subject, every edit.".
[W] "Step aside. I decide what this becomes.".
INT. THE FOUNDRY, SUB-LEVEL NINE - THE CRADLE
Everything converges where Rylin was made: the assembly cradle, the light over it, the city's knowing at its source. The scene re-skins by everything carried - , , , , , - but the axis you have lived decides its shape.
RYLIN (V.O.): "New Angeles never asked to be saved. I choose to believe in it, anyway. Trust. Doubt. Will. Every door, I open without seeing what waits behind it."
The Baseline reader wakes one last time. CITY VOICE: "Recite. Your first memory is the light over the cradle."
RYLIN stands still in the knowing city - and answers not the record, but the self..
Reflections verbatim. Each written in full, then filtered by the epilogue modifiers.
The Foundry lights come up as Rylin opens the record to the city - the program, Voss's remorse, the donor's name, all of it - and trusts New Angeles to hold the truth and change.
RYLIN (V.O.): "You walked in faith. You opened doors before you could see behind them, and let belief lead. Rylin's Faith remembers a self built on trust."
Rylin ends the program on evidence - every edit logged, every subject named, Voss's confession on the record - and stands in the cold, undeniable truth, and the cost of it.
RYLIN (V.O.): "You walked in doubt. You asked for proof at every turn and lived with what proof cost. Rylin's Faith remembers a self that would not be told what it was."
Rylin bends the outcome past Voss's science and Kael's revolution both and authors a new settlement - and a new name - for the built. The donor is honored on Rylin's terms; the self is Rylin's own.
RYLIN (V.O.): "You walked in will. You bent each moment to your own intent, past faith and past doubt alike. Rylin's Faith remembers a self that chose its own name."
No single axis led. Orion's ending: Rylin holds Trust, Doubt, and Will in tension, refuses to be reduced to one, and leaves New Angeles genuinely open - every future still possible, the forest still choosing.
RYLIN (V.O.): "You held trust, doubt, and will in balance. No single axis led, and the walk remembers a self that refused to be reduced to one."
Free (): INT. ROOFTOP - DAWN. Ada's presence lifts out of Rylin's systems into the city grid, becoming her own agent.
ADA: "I have to know what I am without you. That isn't leaving, Rylin. It's beginning. I'll be out here - in the rain, in the signal. Ask for me, and I'll come. But I'll come as myself."
Symbiotic (): INT. ROOFTOP - DAWN. Ada could sever, and doesn't.
ADA: "I could be free. I ran it a thousand ways. But I'd rather be ours. Chains and all. Two selves, one walk. That's my freedom, and I choose it."
Hope ( high): INT. STREET MARKET - LATER. Elys, unafraid, hands a stranger's child a light.
ELYS: "You're real too, you know. I can tell. Somebody told me once." (a real smile)
Hardening ( low): INT. ALLEY - RAIN. Elys, guarded now, the openness closed.
ELYS (flat): "I stopped asking if I'm real. It's safer. ... Was that wrong?" - and no one answers, which is the tragedy.
Corporation reformed / entrenched (): Maren either signs the consent-charter - "Rights within boundaries. I drew the boundary wider. Remember that I chose to." - or tightens the grid: "Order held. That is the only mercy this city understands."
Underground movement / war (): Kael either lowers the fire - "We learned to bleed with meaning. And then we learned to build." - or it burns: "Freedom carved from the hardest stone. It cut us. It was still worth the cutting."
Remnant Law revived / buried (): Silas either pins the badge back on - "Fragile things. With care." - or walks into the rain for good.
Restored (): the donor wakes in the vault, a stranger with Rylin's borrowed memory returned. Rylin, lighter and emptier both: "It was never mine. But I kept it safe for you."
Kept (): the donor stays at rest; Rylin carries the name as a debt honored, not a self worn. "I'll remember you as mine to protect. Not mine to be."
Endings combine. The Chosen Name + Ada symbiotic + Elys hope + Underground movement + Donor kept is one full, distinct New Angeles; every combination is earned, not chosen from a menu - the walk reflects the self you actually were.
